Problems of England in Test Cricket

 Ashes is the biggest rivalry in cricket between two best sides which are use to play their own brand of cricket.But in last 5 years England wasn't at his best in test cricket yes they have changed the dimensions of white ball cricket with their approach and Mindset and has been the most complete side but in the longest format of cricket the story is completely different.They are playing ruthless cricket in limited overs but at the same time they are struggling in red ball cricket which means test cricket is a tough format but the approach of English team and players also under question.

Let's point out their some key problems.

Inconsistent Top Order 

Test cricket is tough but playing a new red cherry is even tougher because it swings and seams at the start with conditions and you have to be fully equipped and prepare for everything but that is not the case for English Top Order.Once they were having one of the strongest top order in the world when there were Andrew Strauss, Alaister Cook and Ian Bell which were equally good against seam, swing and spin.But after that they are still struggling to find a good combination they have tried every single player from county but no one could live up-to the expectations.We have the long list of these players like Carberry,Stoneman,Jennings,Adam Lyth,Alex Hales,Jason Roy,James Vince,Zak Crawley,Joe Denly and Dom Sibley and now days Haseeb Hameed,Rory Burns and David Malan are England's top 3 batters.

Rory Burns

They are all good in county cricket but when it comes to International circut they exposed really badly.Test cricket is mostly the game of temperament and with new ball you have to be extra careful and patient but English openers are not up-to the challenge.I think there is the problem in their system because they don't believe in extra pace and most of English bowlers bowl in 130s and with overcast conditions they are able to swing and seam the ball but when the conditions change medium pace can't help and in International cricket every test side have 140 plus bowlers.The extra pace is always helpful in any sort of conditions and it meets with swing and seam it becomes unplayable and we have seen this in last 5 years against England in test cricket.In last series they couldn't play 60 overs to save the match against Shami,Bumrah and Siraj and now they are up against the other ruthless bowling line up like Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc so good luck to English Top order.

Shaky Middle Order 

The story of middle order of English line up is not much different from their top order.Joe Root is the most complete and compact batsman and he plays at no.4 after him there is Stokes,Buttler and Ollie Pope so Stokes made a comeback after almost 6 months and Buttler and Pope are playing but the problem is they can't go for big scores Buttler in white ball is irreplaceable but in red ball he is like a floater but you need a compact batsman at this position also because this is very tricky position you have to play with batsmen and have to play with tail enders also.He can score quick 30,40 but test cricket requires much more than this.

Jos Buttler 

Ollie Pope looks another promising cricketer for England he started his career on a very good note against South Africa and after that he played couple of good innings also but his career is still in ups and downs because he is little bit weak against in swingers and exposed some times,England have tried some players at this position also like Jonny Bairstow and Dan Lawrence but still unable to find a perfect one.

Missing a Quality Spinner 

A spinner plays a vital role in test cricket irrespective of conditions but especially when it comes to Asian Conditions spinners hold the key and England is missing also that point.Once they were having Gream Swann and Monty Penasar but after that they couldn't find a perfect one for this job spinners can do wonders in Australia also we have seen Ashwin in last series where he got Wade and Smith in the 1st session of test match in Melbourne.He bowled magnificently and after him Jadeja and Sundar bowled also pretty well but this is not the case for England they have tried various options like Moeen,Rashid,Dawson,Bess and now Jake Leach.Moeen was a good option but he retired from test cricket after that they have gone with Leach and you know what happened with him in 1st test. The role of the spinner in 3rd and 4th innings in Australia becomes more critical because he can use the roughs in the pitch but it also requires some sort of skill.

So things are not over yet but it will require a huge effort to turn the table for England and it will take some time but how much only England can answer.
