Champions of the T20 Cricket World Cup 2022

 Cricket is a fun game but at the same, it is cruel and brutal for someone else. T20 World 2022 has just finished and we have seen the best team clinch the title. Let’s talk about the build-up of this ruthless white-ball cricket team of England.

1^st of all congratulations to the English Cricket team as they become the new Champions of the T20Cricket World Cup 2022. This is their 2^nd T20 World Cup title and now they have won back-to-back World cups. England won its 1^st T20 World Cup in 2010 under the leadership of Paul Collingwood by defeating Australia in the final. Now they clinched the title after 12 years under the leadership of their new captain Jos Buttler.

Road to the champions

The start of England wasn’t so good in the tournament. Yes, they were the favorites but they were far away from their best. They took a couple of blows due to the injury of their key fast bowlers. Reece Topley has been so good for the last couple of months and was in a good rhythm but he got injured and couldn’t play a single match of the World Cup.

In 1^st match, England beat Afghanistan but not in their fashion. Sam Curran made his impact in the very 1^st game by picking up a 5fer. Then they lost the match against Ireland and it was a huge upset. At that moment it was looking really tough to go further for England but they didn’t give up. The blockbuster match against Australia couldn’t happen due to rain and after that England didn’t look back.

Against New Zealand, they were going down when Glenn Philips and Kane Williamson were on the crease in the chase but English bowlers joined the party and gave a confidence booster victory to their team. Every game was a knockout game for them and they played like champions. Sri Lanka started really well against England but the 2^nd half of their batting went the wrong way. Ben stokes the man with the nerves of steel was there till the end in the low-scoring thriller and he got his side over the line.

England, New Zealand, and Australia were at the same points but the net run rate of Australia was really bad so they had to go. Just before the semi-final Dawid Malan and premium fast bowler Mark Wood got injured. But that also didn’t change much.

England showed discipline

Yes, they have adopted a different approach from the rest of the world and no one can copy their style of playing. India tried this style in the bilateral series but was completely unable to apply that in this mega event. England was a having limited sources in the bowling department and they executed their plans with some great discipline. They didn’t allow Indian batters to open their arms and despite all the fireworks in the later part of the innings India just put a par score on the wicket of Adelaide against a heavy batting lineup. Then Jos Buttler and Alex Hales came with all guns blazing and completely destroyed the Indian bowling attack in the pressure game. Remember that wasn’t the blind slogging that was proper attacking and ruthless cricket from this duo.

In the grand finale, England did their homework really well and they read the pitch very well also. That was a huge decision to bowl 1^st at MCG in the all-important final. They used the bounce of MCG really well and didn’t allow the Pakistani batters to settle. They showed discipline in the bowling department and Pakistan put 137 Runs on the board which was below par.

In batting, they continued their attacking approach despite losing 3 wickets in powerplay they scored 49 runs.

From the villain of Eden Gardens to the hero of MCG

Ben Stokes the man with nerves of steel was standing in the middle and he made sure that he will play the winning shot and buried the ghosts of Eden Gardens of 2016 where he couldn’t save 19 runs in the last over against West Indies. Life is a roller-coaster for this man he won the ODI World Cup for his country and now the T20 World Cup also. He got his highest score in T20 International in the final. He has already done enough for England Cricket and he is the red ball captain also. So many more to come from him.

England stood up when it matters the most

We have talked a lot about their attacking approach in white ball cricket but now they have transferred this to the red ball also. Eoin Morgan shaped this side but they stuck to their approach even after the failure also. They lost the home series against India and South Africa but that didn’t hurt them at all and they rose to the occasion despite losing a couple of key players. Yes, you can adopt the approach but maintaining the approach despite losing is really difficult England did it really well. In the semi-final, they defeated the batting powerhouse and stopped them by just a par score. In the final, they defeated the best bowling side. Yes, runs were not enough on the board but they still have to chase it and they did it style and showed the world why they are the best side in the world in white ball cricket. The next ODI world cup is not far away and England will be very much into it.
