constraints, the format has undergone dramatic modifications. Larger crowds
were drawn by the 50-over format, and cricket as a sport growing in popularity.
For the fans, it appeared more captivating and less draining. Additionally, it
influenced Test cricket to become a more goal-oriented sport. ODIs that were
financially successful gave rise to competitions like the World Cup, knockout
matches, and the Champions Trophy. The ODI World Cup continues to be the
sport's highest honour. The ODIs strike a balance between conventional wisdom
and cutting-edge tactics.

All things considered, though, the one-day format is now having trouble fitting within the framework of the modern game. Many nations push aside the one-day format in their busy calendars due to the rise of the shortest format and the anticipated influence of the World Test Championship. For instance, South Africa recently withdrew from an ODI series against Australia despite the fact that they needed the points to automatically qualify for the World Cup. In fact, it appears that ODIs are currently only significant during ICC championships.
These are a few possible explanations for this decline:
• It can take 8 to 10 hours to complete a game. This is too lengthy for today's quick-paced society.
• Rules that heavily favour batsmen rather than balancing the struggle between the bat and the ball.

Innovation in the shortest format has no bounds. BBL began enforcing novel and amusing rules. Cricket has begun to adopt newer forms, such as the T10 league and The Hundred. However, it is unlikely that these forms will continue through T20. Additionally, the Women's IPL and WBBL that are already being discussed are good for the sport. T20 cricket has given cricket a much-needed boost in interest and enthusiasm while also giving governing bodies financial advantages that have helped the sport advance.
Test Cricket-

On the other hand, many people still believe that Test cricket is the ideal game format. The phrase "test matches" is apt since, in essence, it tests mental toughness, technical proficiency, and discipline, unlike any other format. The five-day game demands a high level of both mental and physical aptitude. It has proven to be challenging for many players to switch between formats. Players began specialising in one because there are day-and-night disparities in the aptitude and temperament needed for T20s and Tests. Every player wants to play in a Test match for his nation. Despite this, some players have chosen lucrative contracts over the honour of representing their nation in the longest format due to the growth of T20 and franchise contests.
The World Test Championship is expected to revitalise Test cricket. Tests with pink balls are another innovation. The WTC was impacted by each subsequent Test match. Even though the competition is still developing, it is off to the best start possible. Test cricket has always been promoted by superstar players. The face of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli, declared: "For me, this is the pinnacle of the game." I can tell you that I shall give Test cricket my all during my playing career. Something else is the Ashes series between England and Australia, two longtime foes. The most renowned and storied cricket series is still what draws people to the sport.

In the battle of formats, T20 and Test cricket have their USP, which leaves ODI with a big question mark. From the player’s perspective, it might be too much of an ask to be at their best in all leagues, formats, and geographies. With the ICC’s plan of a major tournament every single year, it should also find a balance between formats and leagues worldwide for the benefit of cricket as a whole. But for now, the uneasy coexistence between the formats is inevitable.
